CPLP Summit: Brasilia Declaration strengthens politico-diplomatic concert

by www.portalangop.co.ao
Brasilia - The 11th Conference of the Portuguese Speaking Countries Community (CPLP) ended last Tuesday with the approval, among other documents, of the Brasilia Declaration, an instrument that reiterates the organisation’s determination to continue strengthening politico-diplomatic concert, as well as co-operation in various domains and the premonition of the Portuguese language throughout the world. ,

The document also reaffirms the interest of the member states to stimulate the growth of trade and investment among themselves.

The same documents condemns any attempt to propagate conflicts that subvert peace, security and social progress in member states.

Meanwhile, last Monday, in Brasilia, the new Secretary-General of the United Nations, António Guterres, recognised that the international community has lot a great part of its capacity to prevent and resolve conflicts.

Antonio Guterrez, who attended the CPLP meeting as a special guest, also expressed his concern  about the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), drawing  attention to the regional consequences of that focus of conflicts.

“If we look to Nigeria, Mali, Libya and then the Israeli-Palestine question, through to Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, and others, we can see that all these conflicts have grown in complexity and they are more and more interconnected, representing a global threat of terrorism that is being felt throughout humanity”.

Delivering a speech at the opening of the conference, António Guterres was effusively applauded when he appealed to CPLP member states to count on him throughout his term as UN Secretary-General.
